Win S asked:
my house has very little space around and no plants at all. i’m planning to make a small vegetable garden on the terrace and to plant some around. any suggestions to start with?
[i'm not planning to consult a proffessional for that purpose].
how about the idea of planting medicinal plants in the pot.
ANY idea is appreciated. I may be able to choose the appropriate one.
thanks.

What should I do to prepare my vegetable garden for planting?

I am new to this gardening thing and I want to have a vegetable garden so that we have vegetables and fruit from early summer through late fall. I know that each vegetable has it’s own PH requirements. How do I prep the soil for all the things I’m wanting to plant? Is there a fertilizer that I should use that would be good for a wide range of veggies? I live in northern Ohio. When should I start prepping the soil? When should I plant? Should I plant a second time during the season to ensure that I have veggies into the fall? What should I plant? The area I want to plant is roughly 15 X 20 ft.
We live in an area of northern Ohio that has extremely fertile farm. The soil is dark brown/black and not very much if any clay. We have high sulphur in our water so I’m assuming that the ground has a high sulphur content as well.

What can I plant to perk up my garden in the fall and winter months?

Annie Oakley asked:
I have a beautiful garden in my front yart in the Spring and Summer. It comes back year round. In the winter months it is empty and plain because everything has died. What can I plant to make my garden as enjoyable then as in the spring and summer. I would prefer plants that come back on their own. I live in Western Central region of Alabama.

How can I clear out my new community garden plot organically?

Garbage Kills Megan asked:
I just got a community garden plot. I have until next spring to get it all cleaned up for planting. The problem is, it was abandoned all year and is completely covered in weeds. It’s pretty much a big patch of tall grass. (the plot is 20′x20′) What’s the best way to get rid of it all, including the roots, so that it won’t grow back later? I’m not allowed to use any chemicals so it needs to be an organic solution.

Is it possible for you to have poison Ivy in your garden/backyard?

BeautifulSin64 asked:
Earlier today while my cousins were playing in the backyard where the garden was around, I saw a bunch of 3 leafed plants. I thought it couldn’t have been what I thought it is but I checked just in case. I have a book about plants in my bookshelf so I took it out and then looked up Poison Ivy. It said that poison ivy does have 3 leaves. And it had a picture of it and it looks exactly like the one plant in my garden that I think its posion ivy. So, my question is: Is it possible for there to have poison ivy in your garden/backyard. If it is how to get rid of it? I just moved in the house about less than a week ago and just realized it now.

Can I grow a vegetable garden in sandy soil?
Filed Under Gardening | Comments Off
Loves Dogs asked:
I have a nice boxed off area that used to have a hot tub from a previous house owner. I would love to plant a garden, but after tilling the soil I noticed that it is kind of sandy. I live in Ohio. I plan on growing (hopefully) Tomatoes, Japs, Cucumber, Romaine, Bell Pepper, Okra, Squash, Strawberries, Watermelon, Onions, Carrots and Green Beans. Will these plants grow in sandy soil?
